Ponthafren Association clean up the canal in Welshpool

Jim and Sue with the bags of rubbish

A small but determined band of litter pickers tackled the Montgomeryshire canal at Welshpool on 26th September. Armed with fishing nets with extended cane handles, Jim, Trish, Tom and Sue fished 7 bags of rubbish out of the canal. The pond weed posed an additional hazard, making the job heavier work than anticipated, but the nets stood up to the harsh treatment. After a few hours in beautiful sunshine, 7 bags of cans, bottles and other rubbish were cleared from the canal and banks. Trish provided a wonderful spread of bara brith and scones as a reward for the workers. It was a really enjoyable day.
