Newtown Liberal Democrats tackle the cyclepath
On Saturday 29th October, 5 volunteers turned out to litter pick the river walk cycle path between Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn. As we started, it seemed as if there was nothing to clear up. The grass and paths were very tidy, but then we reached the area through the five bar gate where bushes and trees grow alongside the path. Immediately, the level of litter changed. There were dozens of cans and bottles in amongst the bushes, as well as larger items which had clearly been flytipped some while ago. Gemma, Dominic, Martin, Rhian and David worked solidly for two hours. David in particular would not be beaten by a piece of litter or a can, no matter how inaccessible! So much rubbish was collected that bags quickly became too heavy to carry and had to be left in three separate piles by the path.
Thank you to all the helpers. A great job was done.
