Wild walk and litter pick- Ponthafren and the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust

Three wildlife enthusiasts and litter haters, and a dog, joined Mel Chandler from Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust and Sue from Keep Wales Tidy on a litter pick from Ponthafren to the Penarth Pwll Nature Reserve on Thursday 17th May.

Here are the litter pickers at the start of the walk, which produced 4 bags of assorted rubbish.

Tree identification was an interesting part of the walk. Would you know a whitebeam if you saw it?

At the Nature Reserve, the group did a spot of bird watching, advised by Gareth, an ornithologist, who turned up at just the right moment to answer our questions.
A delight, as always, were the sand martins nesting in the bank and swooping over the lake in large numbers. You can just spot two blurry shapes here if you look hard!
